The Senior Law Librarian assists the Assistant Dean for Law Library with administrative responsibilities, including budget management, long and short-range planning, personnel supervision, facilities management, and technology initiatives. He or she will be a leader in the development and implementation of the library’s research instruction program, which will include a two-credit research course in the first year, a one-credit advanced legal research course, and research segments connected to upper division classes. The position also takes part in access service, reference services, liaison work, research guide development, and collection development. The Senior Law Librarian assumes responsibility for the Law Library in the Assistant Dean’s absence.

Position Description: Procures and tracks legal materials for the Law Library, judicial libraries and all County departments. Reviews invoices for accuracy, authorizes payments, and contacts publishers and vendors to correct orders. Monitors fiscal appropriations for law books and online services, ensures funds for purchases, monitors available balances, and prepares recommendations to the Budget Office. Orders all print and online materials, and supplies. Supervises the distribution of materials to judicial and department libraries. Reviews requests from departments for purchases and makes recommendations based on the content of current collection, department type, frequency, usage and funds availability. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education: Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (A.L.A.) accredited school preferred.
Required Experience: At least one (1) year of work related experience. Supervisory experience preferred.Knowledge of library systems and accounting principles and procedures. Skilled in the use of standard software applications. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, departments, vendors, publishers and the public.

Position:  Research Analyst – Dykema Gossett Law Firm

Dykema Gossett PLLC, a leading national law firm, is recruiting for a Research Analyst to conduct research and analysis in conjunction with the Legal Information Services Team and Director, for attorneys, legal specialists and staff.  The position requires strong research and analytical skills utilizing online tools with ability to present information in logical, organized manner.  This position may reside in either San Antonio, Austin, or Dallas, Texas. 


Candidates must possess a post graduate degree such as a JD or MLS from an accredited school.  Required skills and abilities include one to three years’ experience in research, or competitive intelligence – legal or corporate preferred; excellent skills with online research databases, such as Lexis or Bloomberg Law; strong skills with Microsoft Office, particularly PowerPoint, Excel and Word, with basic knowledge of Microsoft Sharepoint preferred; must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; and must have the ability to travel to regional offices on a regularly scheduled basis.

Essential duties and responsibilities include: 

Conduct legal and intelligence research in conjunction with the LIS team for all Dykema offices; participate in expanding and/or improving research services, procedures and practices; produce relevant reports as requested by the Director of Legal Information Services; participate in meetings with attorneys to assess needs for research services and tools; utilize library management system; participate in Legal Information Services team meetings, vendor meetings and Practice Group trainings and meetings requested or delegated by the Director; and perform additional research functions and tasks as requested or delegated by the Director of Legal Information Services.
