Timeline

1976 – A workshop for law librarians is held in Houston, Texas on January 30-31.  Workshop attendees decide to organize a professional association in Dallas.  The first meeting is held in March and is attended by twelve librarians.  The first issue of the DALL Advance Sheet is released in December 1976.  In that issue, the results of the first election of officers is announcement. Carol Marks was elected President, Joan Hass was elected Vice-President/President Elect, and Jane Ward Rutlege became Secretary/Treasurer.

1977 – Monthly DALL meetings are initiated.

1982 – DALL is approved as an AALL chapter and founds a DALL Technology Special Interest Section.

1986 – DALL marked its 10th anniversary with a celebration held at the law firm of Johnson & Gibbs in its Founders Square headquarters.  Two presidents of the American Association of Law Libraries: former president Earl Borgeson and then current president, Bob Berring attend.

1988 –  DALL receives tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code.

1995 – DALL is incorporated in Texas as a domestic nonprofit corporation.

1996 – DALL celebrates its 20th anniversary with a party at DeGolyer House on the grounds of the Dallas Arboretum.

1997 – The Advance Sheet is distributed electronically.  DALL launches its first website.

1998 – DALL began its own listserv to facilitate communication among members.

2001 – DALL celebrates its Silver Anniversary. The Silver Anniversary Celebration Committee is chaired by John Luther Adams.

2007 – DALL revises its bylaws to give Associate Members full membership rights.

2013 – The physical materials in DALL’s archives are moved from SMU Underwood Law Library to UNT Dallas College of Law Library.

2014 – DALL members amend the bylaws to include a Retired Member class.

2015 – DALL adopts a new logo.

2016Advance Sheet is digitized in its entirety and made available to members via the DALL website.
